In the action “7 wonders of Ukraine: castles, fortresses, palaces” Kiev is represented by Mariinskiy Palace, Klovskiy Palace and the most vigorous fortification construction in Kiev – Kiev Fortress.
The press service of the event’s organizer, vice-speaker of Ukrainian Parliament Nikolai Tomenko, reported about it.
Examining the objects, which represent the capital in the contest, N. Tomenko mentioned that Kiev objects were the least visited no matter how paradoxically it seemed.
In particular, Tomenko is confident that reconstruction of Mariinskiy Palace should be held after serious discussion with the community, experts and specialists and with investment of state means as well. But he added that it could be realized only under condition that it would be possible to hold excursions for Kiev residents and guests of the capital in the reconstructed Palace.
Vice-speaker mentioned the positive example of the Supreme Court Leaders who had made the first step and started conducting such excursions in Klovskiy Palace where The Supreme Court of Ukraine was situated.
Besides, according to Tomenko, possibilities of Kiev Fortress are not used to full extent. He believes that its territory can be used to hold different kinds of cultural events including concerts, presentations, festivals.
It should be reminded that during the second stage of the event “7 wonders of Ukraine: castles, fortresses, palaces” regions represent their nominees for the title of the best. At present time 137 objects from different parts of the country pretend to win in the contest. 21 finalists of the contest will be chosen on the eve of the World day of tourism and the Day of tourism in Ukraine on September 27, 2010. The winners will be determined by expert and Internet voting till December of this year. As the result of this action, 7 wonderful castles, fortresses and palaces of Ukraine, which face the danger of fast destruction, will be chosen.
