The opening of the exhibition of photos of the art group from Moscow “Black Hole” took place in Kiev gallery “Mykola`s House” on March 21.
The first pictures were made with camera obscura (the Latin for “a black room”). This type of camera has another name – pinhole. These two names gave the title to the art group, among the members of which there are students and teachers of the School of Photography and Multimedia named after Rodchenko.
Camera Obscura is not a step towards the past, as it might seem to a dilettante. The properties of light, which are use here, were discovered several centuries BC, long before photography was invented. So Camera Obscura has been serving humanity for such a long period, that it cannot be called outdated device. It would be more correct to call it “eternal device”.
The authors of “Black Hole” tried to restrict their actions with Photoshop, leaving the main part to the light. All the more, some of works were performed using hand development. Olya Matveeva`s project “The Blue Bay” was developed by hand, using the technology of toning. The blue color, chosen by the author, corresponds with her idea of seeking for primordial in the epoch of technologies, since as known, all our civilization came out of the ocean.
The exhibition in Kiev is the third part of the project “Black Hole”. The first two were shown at the School of Photography and Multimedia named after Rodchenko in Moscow in November 2008 and in the Museum of Photography named after Dmitriyev in Nizhny Novgorod in February 2010. These were common projects with the Art Academy of Vilnius (Lithuania). The third stage consists exclusively of works of Rodchenko School.
