A house from the complex of constructions, excavated in Kiev Podol by archeologist and historian Konstantin Gupalo at the beginning of 1970th, was reproduced in the History and Culture center “Kievan Rus Park”
“In due time the place of discovery of the Old Russian buildings was called “Kiev Pompeii”. These constructions are about 1000 years old, but they preserved their original appearance because they were covered by 15 meters of sand. There was huge flood in Kiev in 10th century, after which the houses got covered with ashes like Pompeii”- the author of the project “Kievan Rus Park” Vladimir Yanchenko informs.
The houses of “Kiev Pompeii” had been reproduced in Pereyaslav Open-Air Museum, but specialists believe that they were the most authentic in the “Kievan Rus Park “.
Konstantin Gupalo, who managed to excavate Kiev Pompeii» was the research supervisor of the project “Kievan Rus Park”. So it’s natural that we’ll be able to reproduce the finding better than anybody else. It` a pity Konstanin Gupalo is no longer with us. We believe that the homestead, reconstructed on the territory of the Park and also fully renewed complex on the territory of Detinets will leave good memories of our colleague” – Yanchenko says.
