What is “gryndzholy”? How did look like machine-tool for treatment of hemp? The first vacuum cleaner was made in imperial time and it survived! Do you want to see this? Then go to the museum on Stepan Sagaidak Street!

It is also called “Museum of Antiques” or “Museum of unnecessary things”. It sounds more romantic and exact. All proposed here – not an utility: it did not have time to become them, but was carefully stored in a museum. It waits to be examined by curious visitors. In fact, this collection is the greatest museum of way of life of the gone epoch. On shelves you can see all XX century: objects saved here from tsars to the presidents. Age of some exhibits rescued from a dump is about 200 years.

There are two expositions. The biggest exhibits “live” on the street, under a cover, the main part is in a comfortable wooden cottage. It was begun to collect collection after liberation of city in a 1943. Then the great number of derelict, spoilt things got on garbage. Now it is priceless rarities of epoch: collectors of things of Soviet way of life come here to take some advices. When people knew that exposition is going to be, that old-age things would be accepted, they began to bring things from all Ukraine. Even old-age icons were accepted on utility!

So let’s visit this supply room. The ancient table with carafe and dusted flatware meets us. The wall with ancient trunks hangs above it. The old iron with coal, gramophones, samovars with boot, the different lamps and candelabrums stands on the shelves. The old vases shine peacefully. The great number of old cameras stands right in the basket. Near there are a record player and mentioned vacuum cleaner. The collection of radio, musical instruments and machines are there. The old hairdressing accessories consist of the first iron curler-scissors, the first shaving machine, dangerous shaver, and the first metallic hairdryer of German production. The figurine of the strongest man in the world Ivan Poddubniy stands apart, it was made in 1905. The locksmith’s and other instruments of old time lay separately; it is a present to experts. The original exhibit is the collection of instruments for tortures of imperial gendarmery, devolved in CK. Unfortunately it is a part of our history saved from dirt chaos. Ammunition and nucleus of World War I tell about military theme. The whole stand is dedicated to the revolutionary and Soviet theme: there are revolutionary books and also folder of “Iskra” newspaper of famous first Leninist publication of 1900, and rare atlas of Cuba.

There is the collection of Ilyich in the yard. 7 meter-long statue of Lenin is towering, this statue from Crimea. The wheel-barrow for delivery barrels with water, wooden ploughs and sledges, called “gryndzholy” – also here. Now this word would not be a mystery for you! How did you like that machine-tool for treatment of hemp? And what about hand-made and industrial bikes, from the first samples of centenary oldness?

One more rare object of exposition is a “begunki” – the appliance from wood and rod, children used them for toddling in 18th century.
