 From 2009 this theatre was moved to the Left bank of Kyiv, providing the not-spoiled-by-the-art theatregoers of the residential area with plays. But the birthplace of the theatre is the heart of the capital - Andriivskyi uzviz(slope). An independent theatre "The Fourth wall", founded by stage-directors - people’s artist of Ukraine Valerii Nieviedrov and Honoured Artist Anatoliy Tykhomyrov was its forerunner. Exactly there a creative backbone of the collective was formed and first plays were shown. Some already renewed plays became a part of the "Kyiv" repertoire.

 Main features of the theatre are: contemporaneity and accent on national features. The creators of the theatre rise in opposition against the conception of a theatre to be like museum, with stiff plays and monotonous repertoire, as well as they try to avoid typical for our days shocking behaviour on the stage. "Kyiv" adhere to a position of a living theatre – a theatre which lives simultaneously with people, with a spectator, with today, considering the present time, its rhythm and uniqueness. Therefore modern Ukrainian dramaturgy, which usually occupies a so few place in repertoire of other theatres which give the advantage to the classic, became the priority in “Kyiv”. Maybe burning plays of "Kyiv" will become the classics, and under different interpretations will move to other stage grounds soon.

But the theatre is not specializing only in new drama. "Kyiv" was created as a musically-dramatic theatre with the wide genre range: drama, comedy, musical and even ballet. It is a many-sided theatre, where the spectator can find new interpretation of the classics, approbation of searches in modern foreign play, chamber plays and large-scale shows.

 The troupe of the theatre consists of young actors, mainly graduating students of Kyiv National University of theatre, cinema and television named after Ivan Кarpenko-Karyi.

 An artistic leader of the theatre is people’s artist of Ukraine Valeriy Nieviedrov. He started the creative way in a theatrical school of Dnipropetrovsk. Later he graduated from the actor faculty of Moscow State Institute of Theatrical Art personally conducted by Mykola Коvsh and Kateryna Yelanska, afterwards studied stage direction in National University of theatre, cinema and television named after Ivan Кarpenko-Karyi. In 1994-1996 Nieviedrov was doing a stage-director practical training in the Theatre named after Ivan Franko conducted by Sergiy Danchenko. Then he worked in the Kyiv Young theatre. Also he often acts in film.
