Original and comfy theatre, where the troupe taught by People’s Artist of Ukraine, laureate of State Prize named after Taras Shevchenko, Nikolai Rushkovskiy, is playing. The theatre was created by senior pupil of Rushkovskiy – Alexander Krijanovskiy.
The actors of the “New Theatre” are talented professionals, opened for experiments, free and reckless, playing for 50 spectators the same way they’d perform for a 1000. By the way, all of them are starring in art films and serials, they’re the members of The Union of Theatrical Workers of Ukraine and The Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine
The repertoire of the theatre is pretty various: here you got Chekhov, Pelevin, original “tangodrama”, commedia dell'arte. The actors often act as directors, inviting their colleagues from the Kiev Drama Theatre on Podil to perform. The repertoire of the theatre is oriented towards youth, mostly. Romantic and very beautiful drama “The Law of Tango” is very recommended for a visit.
There are 50 places in the hall. It is situated in a big basement of an ancient building. The hall was decorated in an original way – light and simplicity in an unplastered brickwork from the beginning of the previous century, reminding the aesthetics of decoration of analogous theatrical premises in Germany, Czech Republic and Poland. The hall is little and mobile, so with every performance the placement of the seats can change. The theatrical cafeteria is pretty funny and democratic: it is represented by a simple table with a teapot, glasses, waffles and cookies, and near them there’s a salver with money, plus the price list on the wall. Everything is nice and comfy.
