The theatre created by one of the most famous young ballet master of Europe Radu Poklitaru is inseparable from its creator. The name of Poklitaru is connected with the most interesting experiments and daring interpretations of the world-famous theatrical plots, renewal and improvement of the form and vocabulary of modern dance. The theatre of Radu Poklitaru is planned as an author’s theatre, where the repertoire and the artistic priorities are defined by the performances of one choreographer with his own unique style.

Poklitaru is one of the most talented young ballet masters of Europe. His works arouse great spectator’s interest and hot discussions. His name became famous in the end of 1990’s, when on different international ballet contests, choreographic miniatures, staged by Poklitaru, constantly took the first awards.

At present the choreographer put on stage around 20 one-act and full length performances, which were shown on different stages, among others we could name The Bolshoi Theatre and Russian Chamber Ballet “Moskva”, National Operas of Moldova, Latvia and Belarus. The most famous of them are “Karmen.TV” and “Veronese myth: Shakespearements”, where the music base is compiled and classical stories are doctored. “The Nutcracker”, where Radu Poklitaru from the beginning till the end follows the original musical score by Tchaikovsky, and also 2 one-act fantasies on music by M. Ravel, J. S. Bach and ethnic world music – “Rain” and “Bolero”.

Kiev’s spectators were astonished by Poklitaru’s choreographic variations of one-act ballets “Pictures from the exhibition” on music by M. Musorgskiy and “Sacred Spring ” by I. Stravinskiy on the scene of National Opera, and also by the staging of unique opera-ballet performance “Le Forze Del Destino”, which unites classical vocal, expressive modern plastique and direction.

After invitation to the staging in The Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, he made a “revolution” there in the ballet business – he took shoes off all the ballerinas. In Poklitaru’s performances they dance either in soft low-heeled ballet slippers or just barefoot. He has “abolished” the pointes, somehow it reminded of Isadora Duncan, who created once a new kind of dance, ballet costume and behaviour on scene.

Who is Radu Poklitaru anyway? The choreographer was born in 1972 in Kishinev (Moldova), in the ballet artists’ family. In 1991 he finished Perm state choreographic college, in 1999 – Belarus state musical academy majoring in “ballet master”.

From 1991 till 2001 Poklitaru was the ballet artist in National Academic Theatre of Republic of Belarus. After finishing the Academy Radu begins staging his own choreographic performances: “The kiss of the fairy” by I. Stravinskiy (1999) and “The world doesn’t end near the house door” on music of G. Mahler and J. Desprez (1999). In 2001 the choreographer came back to Kishinev, where he held a position of the main ballet master of National Opera of Moldova for a year.

From 2002 Radu Poklitaru became “vagrant” choreographer: without being a part of any troupe or theatre, he stages a number of outstanding performances on the territory of former CIS. On the scene of The National Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow Radu Poklitaru staged full-length ballet “Romeo and Juliet” by S. Prokofiev (jointly with English director Declan Donnellan, in 2003) and one-act ballet “Ward no. 6” on music by A. Pärt (2004). In 2005 Poklitaru was invited in Riga to stage the ballet “Cinderella” in National Opera of Latvia.

Moldova, Belarus and Russia called Poklitaru “their” choreographer, but since 2006, thanks to patron Vladimir Fillipov, exactly in Kiev was created a theatre of Radu Poklitaru – “Kiev Modern Ballet”.
