International Children’s Center Artek is going to celebrate its 85th anniversary soon. Over two million children from different countries of the world have visited it during this time. Today this children’s establishment, situated at the bottom of Ayu-Dag Mountain between Yalta and Alushta, is a member of international Fellowship of Camps. It was given the status “Under the aegis of UNESCO” in 2006.
In other words, Artek is not just a huge prominent camp, it is a separate country. Thousands of children dream to become its citizens and become them forever after visiting it once. Along with climatic conditions, complex of recreating procedures, excursion and educational programs, Artek turns traditional child’s vacation into the holiday of creation and talent, gives each child a chance to reveal his talents and open the wonderful world around.

Medical treatment and rehabilitation
All children who come to International Children Center Artek go through full medical examination to reveal chronic and hidden diseases. Modern diagnostic equipment is used in the health-center for this purpose (ECG, FCG, bioenergetics system EKSI, X-ray room, clinical, biochemical and bacteriological laboratories, thermo diagnostics cabinet and so on). Children are also examined by dentists. Rehabilitation work with use of medical and prophylactic laser equipment is carried out with children who have habit scoliosis. There are dentists at the medical center. And, naturally, all the ways here lead to the salubrious sea. Sea bathes with science-supported medical regime of beach procedures are held under supervision of medical personnel. In low season sea is substituted by indoor swimming pool with heated sea water. Swimming training by modern technique is available.
Children’s sweet sleep is guarded by teachers and doctors on duty.
Children’s feeding is under special control of doctors. It is healthy and tasty, with five meals a day cooked on balanced children’s menu, worked out be SRI of Hygiene and Nutrition, with system of choosing dishes and “smorgasbord”. Fresh vegetables, fruit, garden-stuff are served daily. Days of national cuisines, devoted to a country, children of which spend their vacation in Artek are always especially “tasty”.

ICC Artek is not just a children’s camp. It unites 10 children’s towns: “Amber”, “Diamond”, “Crystal” – five-storey buildings at the bottom of the beautiful Medved – Mountain. “Sea”, “Field”, “Forest”, “Lake”, “River” – are summer two-storey houses right on the seashore. “Azure” and “Cypress” are summer cottages of fashionable resorts of the beginning of last century which still keep their charm.
All this children’s world is situated on the wonderful green territory of modern and old parks. It’s filled with life all year round: Artek accepts children from 10 to 16 year of age, and from 9 years in summer period. That’s why there is a school on Artek`s territory, where children are taught according to educational programs of Ukraine and Russia.
A library, sports complex, play areas, tennis courts, stadium, internet café, medical complex, yacht club and other interesting sections function indispensably.
One of the goals that local teachers and tutors have is development of creative talents and general culture level of young participants of every shift. Here are some events and forms of work accompanying pedagogical aspirations:
Organization of different educational, creative, entertaining and pedagogical programs, the center of which is a child with his interests, health and security.
Organization of consultative individual work of children’s psychologists.
Excursions about the Southern Coast of Crimea and Sebastopol that include visiting historic, cultural and memorable places and also museums, exhibitions, parks. Here is a short list of the most interesting of them: Hero City Sebastopol, Livadia, Massandra, Alupka, “Fairytale Glade”, Nikitskiy Botanical Garden; walking tours: one-day on Ayu-Dag Mountain, two-day auto-walk on mountain massif Chatyr-Dag, three-day on “Gurzuf Saddle” Pass; Roman-Kosh Mountain – “Dubrava” camping site.
Sections for all kinds of hobbies: automobile, astronomic, beadwork, Greco-Roman Style, macramé, soft toy, folk arts, thread graphic, phytodesign, photo studio.
A voucher to ICC Artek is really the best present for a child. If anyone ever had an opportunity to spend a camp shift there, he is not likely to forget the miraculous time in Artek, evening gatherings by the fireplace, romantic of Crimean sky, walking tours and, of course, friendship, the kind that is born only in Artek.
Inviting young guests, Children` Center is responsible and rigorous when it comes to organizing a regular shift - since it’s about health and security of thousands boys and girls. That’s why parents and other organizers of children’s rest in Artek should know and remember certain rules which must be followed implicitly.
Children are accepter after a voucher is paid for. It can be done by cashless or cash payment.
Before leaving for the camp, children must be fully examined by doctors domiciliary and show their medical card and notarized xerocopy of birth certificate or passport on the arrival day.
On arriving to Artek, all children go through medical control. Those of them, who are contraindicated to stay because of health condition, or those who do not have a medical card or a voucher are sent back with accompanying persons at the expense of the organization that sent them to Artek. This information is also sent to the medical organization that filled in the medical card.
ICC Artek accepts children strictly in the terms indicated in the voucher and provides with accommodation for accompanying persons at their expense at its hotel in Simferopol.
Children younger than 10 (9 – in summer period) and older than 16 are not accepted to Artek. But if they still come, they are sent back with an accompanying person at the expense of the organization or a person who sent the child to Artek. Voucher cost is not to be indemnified for.
In case a child gets ill, the Camp provides him with feeding and medical treatment despite the term of end of Camp shift. The terms of sending the child back home after recovery is coordinated with the organization that sent the child and his parents. In case children leave ahead of schedule, the rest of the cost of the voucher is not to be returned.
Accompanying adults, who come for their groups of children at the end of a camp shift, should appear at Artek`s site in Simferopol not later than two days before departure and register at the site’s evacuator (room 11, second floor).
During their stay in Artek children are provided with uniform according to the season (except for undergarment, shoes and headwear).
The Center ensures safety of things taken to Storage Room of each of the camps, which can be visited by children throughout the day.
Children are not allowed to use self phones in Artek. If the rule is broken, Administration is no longer responsible for their safety.
Money brought by children to the Camp should be deposited on a personal account in the cash office. It is given out on a child’s demand. The sum given to a child by parents should account for expenses for photographing, buying souvenirs, attending children’s cafes and the way back.
A school with five-day study functions at the camp during school year. Going to Artek in this period, it is important not to forget to take several notebooks and pens.
