Biosphere reserve Askania – Nova represents Ukraine in the second phase of the New7Wonders of Nature campaign.
Askania-Nova is a biosphere reserve in Kherson Oblast, Ukraine, located within the dry Tavriya steppe. The natural reserve was established in 1874 by landowner Friedrich Eduardovych Falz-Fein around the German settlement Askania-Nova . The reserve consists of the acclimatization zoo, botanical garden (2.1 km²), and a virgin steppe preserve (110 km²), and has total area of 825 km².
The further voting for nominee will continue Until July 7, 2009. The top 77 voted nominee, on a category group basis, will be considered be the N7W Panel of experts for finalist shortlist. The shortlist of the selected 21 candidates will be announced on 21 Juky 2009, and will go forward to the Official Finalists stage of voting.
Voting for the New 7 Wonderes of Nature, as chosen by popular vote from the 21 finalist candidates, will continue throughout 2010 and into 2011. The official New 7Wonderes will be declared in 2011.
The N7W Panel of experts forecasts 100 million people take part in voting.
