A complex, created by William Geste, with parking and entertainment center will be built on Podol. They will start to remove tram railings and kiosks from Kontraktova Square – work on reconstruction of the Square will be started there. Architectural workshop of Yuriy Lositskiy was announced the winner of the tender for development of the project.
He said that plans on reconstruction had not changed: on the square they plan to renew the building of the town Council, which William Geste planned to build in 19th century and to build municipal town hall, which was burned in 1811, near “Samson” fountain. “There are two variants now: there will be either a hotel or an entertainment center in the complex of Geste. I`m inclined to the second variant” – Lositskiy told us.
According to him, parking is planned to be placed underground and probably room for the Museum of Kiev history that has been huddling at the storehouses of “Ukrainian House”. They also plan to dig out a layer of old Kiev, the fragments of which will be placed under glass. Public gardens with kiosks, filled with great amount of rubbish, are likely to be removed too. It should be reminded that the main part of construction is going to be finished in 2012.
Let us remind that some projects on restoration and improvement of Andrew’s Descent are being carried out now.
