The great Ukrainian theatre actress Maria Zankovetskaya (Adasovskaya) (1860-1934) is immortalized in many memorials, monuments, names of theatres and streets. But there is just one Museum dedicated to her. It is situated in Kiev in a restored house in the middle of the public garden on Vasilkovskaya (Krasnoarmeyskaya) Str.
Exposition of the Museum is formed by the collection that used to belong to the state Museum of Theatre, Music and Film Art of Ukraine.
It includes Zankovetskaya`s personal gifts: documents, posters, pictures, stage costumes passed by the actress in 1923. Now exposition about life and creative work of the actress, her memorial flat and theatre salon are placed in the Museum. So the Museum consists of two parts: historical -biographical, materials of which report about Zankovetskaya`s life and work from her birth up to 1917 and memorial part, that reproduces the flat of the actress where she lived from 1918 till 1932.
In Zankovetskaya`s Museum one is first of all impressed by the collection of genuine things – the gift of 1923. The collection of the Memorial Flat enables to see the mode of life of the great Premier of Ukrainian theatre. It includes photos, furniture, personal belongings, fans` gifts. In the Museum one can learn about complicated relationship of the actress with her husband - the great theatre actor N. Sadovskiy, about the role of Ukrainian theatre in 19th century, about the Pleiad of prominent actors who acted simultaneously with Zankovetskaya.
