In every district of Kiev national museums were founded at Soviet times The most famous is Svyatoshin one now. Things, equal to which there are not even in the Museum of History of Kiev, are kept there. Svyatoshin district is famous in Kiev 100 thousand-“sleeping” massif called Nikolskaya Borshchagovka. There is collection of architectural drawings of the district here. Architect and author Vsevolod Suvorov presented this collection to the Museum. Such collection is the only one in the CIS, because authors work at the project for a long time and materials are not always saved, even more given to the museum.
Some things were granted to the Museum. For example, 100 year-old wall clock from pre-war Kreschatyk, which managed to be evacuated from the streets before they turned into ruins. The clock and the ancient samovar with gramophone have not much to do with Svyatoshin, but the same things could be in houses of pre-war villas, the plans and models of which are kept here. By the way, Mikhail Bulgakov and Velimir Hlebnikov had a rest on the west side of the city. Who knows, maybe the button from gymnasium uniform, exposed here, was lost by future Master? There are Revolutionary and German occupation pieces of currency in the Museum. There is machine “Zinger”, on which suits were sewed for Gnat Yura (a street is called after him) and for other artists. We know exactly that the machine was given by its owner.
A separate section is devoted to “Aviant” plant – it is situated on the territory of the district. The famous constructor Tupolev lived here.
Cassette tape recorders for typing on board of space pilot station were presented to the Museum by Scientific and Research Institute of Electromechanical Instruments - the only enterprise in the USSR, developing devices for archivation, processing and defence of information. The first such device “Zvezda” was created in 1960. With help of strange (for contemporary people) box with big star on its body connection between Gagarin and Korolyov was provided. Later such tape recorders started to be called “black boxes” and were developed here, on the territory of Svyatoshin district.
Exemplary Museum of History of Svyatoshin district is the only museum in the capital, which researches and presents history of one administrative district of Kiev. It enters the Association of Technical Profile Museums of Ukraine.
