Museum of Folk Architecture and Life (Pirogovo) is the largest museum in Ukraine. It is a kind of ethnographic "treasury" of Ukraine. The Museum of Folk Architecture and Life is situated on 150 hectares big area. While visiting the Architecture and Landscape complex under the open sky you will be told about all the historical and ethnographic regions of Ukraine.
There are windmills at the entrance of the Pirogovo museum. Windmills and temples form the image of rural life is formed with windmills and wooden churches. You have a feeling of real immersion in the coloring of the Ukrainian village. Here you can feel the "soul" of our people. The huts, the oldest of which is dated to 1587(!) are filled with samples of household items, clothing, icons. There are modern craftsmen reviving traditional crafts according to old traditions in the museum. So you can enjoy historic scenery as well as the living spirit of hard working and fun having Ukrainian people.
The main ethnographic zones of Ukraine (there are six of them): Polesie Naddnepryanschina, Slobozhanschina, Carpathian Mountains, Podolia and Tauria are represented there with six little villages.
Pirogovo is a kind of fairy tale where you find Ukrainian huts, wide fields, shady trails, windmills, pagan stone idols and blackened with time Orthodox churches. It is a nice place to relax in the picturesque outskirts of Kiev!
