Archeologists and historians still argue if it was a full-fledged state or not. One thing is unquestionable — thousands of years ago big cities existed on the territory of modern Ukraine. And exclusive ceramics, unlike anything of that kind, is the evidence of uniqueness of that civilization. There are “places of strength” everywhere to the south along the Dnieper on riverside hills. These places still store the energy of tribes and cultures, which disappeared long ago. What is this strength, which is squeezed like a spiral inside this range and the remains of former extremely long peaks — natural radioactivity or unknown forces of the Universe or the energy, created by people, who were calling upon superior forces here for centuries?
Ploughmen were eternal masters here, watching the nearby steppe from the hills: if nomads, everlasting enemies of ploughmen, potters and collectors were not approaching. Monasteries appeared here during the Christian epoch; temples replaced pagan shrines and the hills became saturated with the energy of the new belief.
The Soviet time brought industrial scenery here, but even their brutal dullness was not able to destroy the special spirit, kept in the bowels of these hills and valleys. The legendary Tripillya is probably the source of the legendary Aratta civilization and the towns of Rzhyshev and Vitachev are nicely located on the territory of former settlements, which are not even hundreds, but tens of hundreds years old…
Tripillya. Archeologists and historians still argue if it was a full-fledged state or not. One thing is unquestionable — thousands of years ago big cities existed on the territory of modern Ukraine. And exclusive ceramics is the evidence of uniqueness of that civilization. One of the most up-to-date museums of Ukraine is located here.
Local inhabitants were contemporaries of Sumerians or, probably, even their ancestors. In any case, you will be amazed with the number and the scale of findings in the fields near Tripillya. This settlement in Kiev region has become the symbol of one of the most intriguing riddles in the ancient history of the mankind. Tripillya civilization is really an unusual phenomenon. Its very existence is so mysterious, that some of its aspects do not reconcile with the traditional theory of primitive society, which should have prevailed on the land of modern Ukraine at the times, when the first multistory buildings started to be built there…
The museum “Ancient Aratta” introduces the history of one of the most interesting and mysterious archeological cultures of Europe, which has been recognized as the most ancient agricultural culture in this part of Eurasia.
In particular, inhabitants of Tripillya depicted popular symbols of swastika, the “peace tree” and “Yin–Yan” on their pots from time immemorial — much earlier than the Chinese, Persians and Egyptians…
We move down to the South. Rzhyshev used to be the center of Polyany tribe — the most economically developed one in Podneprovye. Settlement in the center of the city is not younger that the Kiev one that is understandable, since they were founded by one people at the same time. Written records about Rzhyshev and Ivangorod Fortress are dated 1151. After Mongol invasion the Fortress was destroyed and was mentioned in chronicles under the current name only in 250 years. The territory was under Polish rule at that time and the name of the city, Polish in sounding, comes from those times.
Bogdan Khmelnitskiy met Moscow messengers before Pereyaslav Rada in 1653 there. During the World War 2, battles burst out near Rzhyshev twice — in 1941 and 1943 years. They practically wiped off the ancient quarters of the sleepy town. At the end of 1960th, in the stirring era of socialistic constructions, Rzhyshev appeared to be located at the coast of the Kanev Sea that destroyed hundreds of villages. Intercession Church, covered with legends and mystic, rises in the middle of the water storage basin as reminder of stupidity and mania for grand-scale projects of the Soviet times. Feels like ringing of bells is heard on Church holidays and groans are heard during the Feast of Protecting Veil of the Mother of God, like Cossacks or monks, once buried in the neighborhood cemetery grieve about the scorned sacred place…
The church partially remained intact just because it was situated on the hill, chosen from Tripillya times. The other hill has also turned into an island by now. It was called no less than “the Bald Mountain” — you understand energetics and fame of this area though.
Nowadays Rzhyshev is the center of worship to Tripillya genius. “Tripillya Park” has been founded in the center of the city. Ritual figure in the form of Tripillya binocular-like bowl is settled there. Ethnic festival “Tripillya Circle” is held in the city every summer.
Vitachev — is another fortified point of our Slavic and more ancient ancestors. At Kievan Rus times it was an important river wharf and was even favored with honor of being mentioned in essays of one of Byzantine Emperors. Remains of Old Russian town — fortress of pre-Mongolian era are still preserved on two plateaus, separated by shallow hill. Old fortress ramparts, laying parallel to one another are preserved here. Vitachev will give you unforgettable impressions about the beauty of the surrounding area. River space, broaden to infinity by Kanev water reserve basin transfers into resilient greenery of the hills. “Places of strength”, consecrated by the genius of ancient and mysterious Tripillya tribes and then by our above-Dnieper ancestors Polyany, just cannot leave you indifferent. There is something about it… And there definitely was something about it.
The center of Ukrainian land is here, Shevchenko`s places are not far away. Origin of our Slavic land is here.

WITH EXCEPTIONAL BEAUTY HERE…”
The historical – archeological museum of Tripillian archeological culture “Ancient Aratta – Ukraine” welcomes visitors on the Dnieper`s bank, not far from Devich – mountain, where sacred rituals were held at ancient times. The museum is situated in Tripillya village in Kiev region, to be more exact.
|Museum of Tripillian Archeological Culture “Ancient Aratta –
What do we know about this culture? We don’t even know how it was really called, since archeologists entitled it Tripillian after the village, near which Kiev archeologist and expert of local history Vikentiy Khvoika discovered remains of this culture over a hundred years ago. But we can see amazing artifacts, worth being astonished by, which were left to the world by unknown craftsmen. We can touch ceramic items, covered with amazing ornaments, encoding the oldest in the world cosmological symbols of creation of the universe.
The territory, containing remains of Tripillian civilization is huge – its borders stretch from the Black Sea, Moldavia and Romania (where the culture is called “kukuteni” culture), from the borders of contemporary Poland, it occupies all the Dnieper`s right bank and ends on the left bank on the territory of present-day Russia.
In the first half of the 20th century the writer and archeologist Maria Gimbutas called this territory “Old Europe” and put forward a hypothesis, which was later confirmed by findings. The theory claimed that the whole European civilization originated from this territory.
We know that inhabitants of Tripillya were ploughmen, since symbols of seeded fields and harvest can often be seen on ceramics (weren`t Ukrainian peasants – ploughmen called “buckwheat sowers” from time immemorial, from the Cossack times?). And we know that those tribes honored two vivifying forces: the foremother Water and the Sun – Fire, Yin and Yan, creating new life together. And, by the way, this primordial conception of creation of the world totally coincides with modern scientific hypotheses of creation of life in the Universe.
Tripillian citizens worshiped the creature that can be called Foremother, which gave birth to the whole Universe and the prophetic darkness. This Foremother was perceived by Tripillian inhabitants and depicted in hundreds of female figures with heads of birds, fish, amphibian, animals… By the way, these figures of “Tripillian women” cause spirited discussions if Tripillian tribes had matriarchy. Of course, at old times a woman was believed to have special spiritual strength because she gave birth to a new life. But the gender aspect of those images shouldn`t be paid so much attention to, since none of the statuettes has an expressive woman`s head. These figures are rather symbols of the sacral source of existence and they symbolically depict earthly evolution – from amphibian to human.

A woman with expressive forms, sitting between horns of a bull, is one of the most widely spread depictions of Foremother. Everybody knows the myth about enlevement of Europe by the Supreme Being in the likeness of a bull and that predecessors of contemporary European nations were born in that union. But this myth may be a little older, that we think and it might have been born on the Dnieper banks, but not on the Mediterranean Sea.
The “Discovery” channel showed a documental historical film “The Athens: Ancient Greece” not long ago. Its creators tried to answer the question where Greek had come to Greece from. And the last researches of European scientists show distinctly that all the tribes that formed European ethnic groups had come to Europe from the territory of Central Pridneprovye. So we can state that it was Tripillian culture that created basis for formation of consciousness of European race, its saturation with sacral knowledge about spiritual world and origin of the humanity, formation of comprehension of life conception. Theses tribes brought the art of ceramics to Greece. Since Greece is considered the protosource of European society, we can state automatically: Inhabitants of Tripillya gave birth to Greek, who gave birth to all the rest, in their turn.

There are very many evidences of that, but up till recent time one couldn`t speak up about it, because no one was interested in raising self-consciousness of Ukrainians to the level, which they deserved.
“Why does nobody know about existing things?”
The main idea of the Museum of Tripillian archeological culture is very simple. Ukrainian nation exists, but it doesn`t know its deep sources. That is why it should be informed about when and how Ukrainian nations was born and that it is Tripillian civilization, which became the primary source of Ukrainians and the ancestral home of Indo-European race.
Alexandr Polischuk`s collection forms the base of the exposition of the museum. But not only material authentic things can be seen in the museum – a visitor is surrounded with special atmosphere there. Back in the yard, where a reconstructed Tripillian house is set, grand clay Foremothers are sitting around old millstones – exact copies of those, made by inhabitants of Tripillya, but enlarged.
The initiator of creation of the museum Alexandr POLISCHUK, the owner of the collection of artifacts of Tripillian epoch, which form the basis of the museum`s exposition, says:
— Neither state, nor public associations were founders of this museum, but four people, united by consciousness of the work they carried out. At first, about 10 years ago, I got a big collection of Tripillian archeological culture items. And an idea occurred immediately: why do things exist, but nobody knows about them?
Those minor sources, where one could get at least some knowledge and information about this culture, such as works of academician Boris Rybakov, for example, were published not just in small number of copies, but without final conclusions and accents at Tripillya. And some time later, I came across works of Yuriy Shylov, who used his hypotheses to bring readers to the idea that the state, called Aratta, belonged to Tripillian culture or Tripillian civilization. According to Shylov, the evidence of existence of such a state is preserved in petroglyphs of the Stone Grave. They can be found in Sumerian chronicles, which inform us that their ancestors spread knowledge about the northern territory, called Aratta and thanks to it created civilizational breakthrough that Sumerian state could be proud of.
That is why I asked the businessman Vladimir Lazorenko for cooperation. He agreed to invest his own means into the museum. He bought back the former house of a buoy keeper and we created a museum there in two years. People`s Artist Anatoliy Gaidamaka was in charge of the art solution of the exposition. We also invited Yuriy Shylov to be among the founders, since we found his idea of Ukrainian statehood in the epoch of Tripillian culture interesting. Here are the four founders, who created this private museum in 2004. Today the museum has all the necessary registrations and works in accordance with the law about museums and museum business.

…There are over 2000 exhibits in the exposition of the museum. Its top priority is not just to demonstrate richness and refinement of Tripillian ceramic culture, but also show off the cosmogonic ideas of Tripillian inhabitants about origin of the world and prove their connection with mentality of Ukrainians of the late epoch, in this way creating inseparable connection of sacral space of all the generations, who lived on the territory of Ukraine at different times. An incontrovertible proof of that is the way of building houses. Trippylians smeared their houses with clay from inside and outside, then whitewashed and painted windows and chips – the way it was traditionally done in Ukrainian villages up to the beginning of the 20th century. Some of such Tripillian houses can still be found in neglected villages of Ukraine and Moldova…
|Expositions of Tripillian ceramic culture|
The exposition of the museum is placed on two floors. Artifacts of Tripillian epoch are demonstrated on the second floor, the first floor is occupied by Ukrainian authentic antiquities of the 18th – 20th century. That was the founders` concept – to show parallels between everyday life of Tripillian epoch and everyday life of our direct ancestors. Many scientists believe that inhabitants of Tripillya were aliens on these territories. But the exhibits, represented in the museum, prove the opposite: present-day Ukrainians are spiritual, if not genetic descendants of the civilization, which was born on this land, starting from the Mammoth Epoch. And it was 35 thousand years BC. Symbolism on items hasn`t changed since Paleolith Age.
It covers all the periods, reaching its peak in the epoch of Tripillian civilization, spreading about the whole Europe after agricultural tribe of Tripillya united with nomadic tribes of the Left Bank. And these two ethnic groups gave birth to European nations.
For example, a lot of images of Goddess – Foremother, who gave birth to the whole visible Universe, are collected in the exposition of items of Tripillian life. Much later, the same Foremother can be observed on different towels, Easter eggs and on different boxes, where Ukrainian girls kept their dowry. This Essence was worshiped by needlewomen. They called it Makosha and at Christian times – Paraskeva. Much later, Zaporozhye Cossacks defended Ukrainian borders under it sacred cover…
So, the exposition of the museum “Ancient Aratta – Ukraine” unites legendary Aratta and Tripillian civilization with present time, where antique items talk to people with exceptional beauty and mysterious patterns on pots and sacral artifacts, the symbols that were known all over the world, but were first embodied by our ancestors.
“Visitors` reaction is fantastic”
— “Did you manage to implement your project? What do you think” – I ask Alexandr Polischuk.
— The question should be addressed to people, who come to our museum. We have celebrated a little jubilee – the fifth anniversary of our existence. Over 200 thousand people have visited the museum during this time, despite the fact that it is situated rather far from Kiev.
— What is the visitors` reaction like?
— People`s reaction is just fantastic, there are no better words to describe it. Sometimes people come into a museum indifferently – a museum is just a museum with exhibits. But not only exhibits, but also the idea and the way of representing material are important in a museum. And when an idea is confirmed by exhibits, a person gets quite a new felling. Today much is said about the national idea of Ukraine, about raising self-consciousness of Ukrainian nation. I believe that such museums can do much more than thousands of ideological books in this respect…

The private museum of Tripillian culture carries out extensive popularizing work. During the last five years the collection of Tripillian ceramic from the museum`s collection has participated in several international exhibitions. In particular, it made a real “cultural explosion” during celebration of the jubilee of UNESCO in Paris in 2006, impressed guests and organizers of the international exhibition in Japan. Tripillya ceramics visited Rome last year. The museum owes its own publishing house “Aratta”, which issues literature, devoted to ancient civilizations. So, thanks to this publishing house the fundamental monography of the famous expert Anatoliy Kifishyn “Stone Grave” was released. It represents decryption of rock carvings, found in the stone grave near Melitopol, and traces connections between petroglyphs of the stone grave and Sumerian script.
Visit the private museum “Ancient Aratta – Ukraine” in Tripillya village and you will enrich yourself with joy of discovering your past and cognition of yourself in the traces of your ancestors.
